Dogs and Their Health
All pet owners want their pets to be in good health. We want nice shiny coats on our dogs and cats. We want crystal clear water for our fish and marine animals, and we want nice clean cages for our birds and reptiles. We can always tell when our pets are not feeling so hot. They crawl up in a ball and lie in the corner. They hide behind a rack in their fish tank and have white little dots on them, and their stool looks anything but normal.
Our pets health is one of those things that will come and go as the pet matures or is exposed to a toxic environment. Whether it be a dog or cat, fish or other marine life, or any kind of animal that remains in a cage. The pets environment will one hundred percent determine how healthy the pet is and how long it will live. Here are a few tips on a few different kinds of pets and how to keep a healthy environment for them.
Dogs and Cats
Dogs and cats are pretty hardy animals and can live in pretty extreme environments. Worst of all however, their environment can also affect your environment and your health. So it is obviously in your best interest that you keep a nice living space for your dog or cat. So for your dog or cat, make sure that they have a clean area to go to the bathroom. For your cat, make sure there is a litter box and make sure that you clean out the litter box at least once a week. There are some great litters out there that are non-odor, or certain chemical free litters, etc. Choose one that both your cat likes and that you like. when you clean out the litter box, don't toss the nasty litter into your house trash can. Try to take the old litter outside and into the trash cans. Cats have a great sense of smell and the smell of old litter along with their droppings could cause unpleasant reactions.
For your dog, make sure that he or she has a nice clean place to sniff around and do his or her business. If you leave your dogs droppings in the are where he or she usually does their business, you run the risk of your dog stepping in their old droppings, rolling in their old droppings, and in certain cases, eating their old droppings. This can cause all kinds of problems for your dog within your home. The last thing you need is your dog throwing up all over the house and it smelling not only like throw up but also dog droppings. You also want to make sure that your dog has clean feet and clean backside before they enter the house. When a dog sits or walks around you don't want to be able to know where they have been.
for both your cat and your dog, make sure you brush them at least twice a week. With fuller haired dogs and cats, you might want to brush them once a day. This will cause havoc if you are like me and have terrible allergies. This will also keep the dogs nose out of the carpet and furniture. Lastly, make sure your cats and dogs are all caught up on their flee medicine. This will make it so their is less hair in your house, create a better environment for your dog and cat, while at the same time keeping the little bugs at bay.
Fish and Marine Animals
When it comes to any of your marine animals it's all about water quality. If the animals natural environment is water, then you need to make sure the water they live in is clean all the time. Some marine animals are more hardy than others. If you have marine life that requires saltwater, make sure you are changing at most 15% of the total water each week. I like to spend about an hour on Saturday to change my saltwater tanks. Once you have changed 15% of the total water, be sure to test the water to make sure there are no toxins within the water. Saltwater tanks work off a delicate balance of marine biology. The longer the saltwater has been in the tank, filtering through a proper system along with proper sunlight, the better the saltwater is going to be. Always keep an eye out for your water quality. This goes for fresh water tanks as well.
If you have rocks or sand or gravel inside of your marine tank, I like to take a turkey baster and blow all the debris off the rocks. The filter will then filter all that debris. This will give the marine animals a much nicer environment to live in. This goes the same for gravel. Shake the gravel up a little bit and get all the debris sitting under the gravel up into the water. Again, the filter will get rid of most of that debris. Always check the water quality after doing something like this to your marine tank.
Lastly, make sure that you are not over feeding your marine animals. This can cause poor water quality and it can be bad for the marine animals within the tank. perform your research on how much you should feed your particular marine animal. If it's fresh or saltwater fish, they can be fed once a day or even once every other day depending on the fish.
Most humans make sure they live in a clean environment. try to do the same for your pets and you will see a world of difference in their everyday behavior.
