Funny Dog Pictures and Movies for the Whole Family to Enjoy

Dogs provide human beings with companionship, loyalty, unconditional love, and more than a few laughs. As perhaps the most intelligent non-bipedal species on earth, they are constantly giving us moments of humor at times when we wish desperately we had a camera to capture them on film. Some of those moments come at the right time, when the camera is at hand. Those captured snippets often become the most viewed dog pictures or videos on the internet. Some even spark an idea for a dog movie.

Cartoons about dogs doing clever or funny things are often one of the first experiences our children have with dog humor. In most cases, the dogs they see depicted in these cartoons or in dog pictures from the cartoons are based on real animals. Snoopy, the lovable beagle from the Peanuts comic strip series, was drawn by Charles Shultz using a memory of his childhood dog “Spike”. He was originally created to be no more than Charlie Brown’s dog, but evolved into the strip’s most popular character.

There have also been dramatic roles played by dogs in film. “Lassie” the hero of many dog pictures made in the 1940’s and 50’s, was actually a dog named “Pal” whose intelligence and antics on-set often caused the writers to re-evaluate their scripts. The character was so popular that Pal’s offspring, Lassie Junior, inherited the role when he got to be too old to play the role anymore. The movies eventually spawned a television series, a line of signature merchandise, and what is now nearly seventy years of enjoyment for children around the world.

Marmaduke, Beethoven, Underdog, Scooby-Doo, and countless others have graced the silver screen and televisions of the world for generations. Funny dog pictures of each of them can be found online and at local gift shops or pet stores. If you have children you have seen these while shopping, maybe you’ve even brought a few home. Perhaps you even had them in your own home as a child. If not, you have missed out on something. Go out and find a funny dog picture or film to enjoy with your family.

What kind of dog do you own? Do you know what its breed history is? Has that type of dog ever been portrayed in a movie or used for a cartoon or caricature? Are there any famous paintings that feature your breed of dog? The fox terrier was a fairly common dog that no one knew the name of until Francis Barraud painted “His Master’s Voice” and sold it to RCA. Now fox terrier owners everywhere can reference that image to describe their dog. Is there something similar that depicts your dog?

Our dogs are our companions, our friends, and members of our families. They provide us so many special moments and they are part of our lives for such a short period of time. Try to keep a camera handy so you can capture those moments when they happen. Those funny dog pictures and cute dog moments will provide you memories you and your family can cherish long after your dog has passed on.
